Dave loves to play music. He has played with the following bands:
RadioRage, V33, Custom 500, Bitch Pistol, Rick Springfield, Krunk,
Slink, Kottak, Paul Shortino, Toiz, First Strike, Section 8, Shannon
Beatty, Big Johnson Band and his own
modestly called band the Dave Whiston Band among many others. He still also plays with
several
other local artists when he finds the time.
Being the son of an elementary music teacher and a college music
professor, it seems only natural that he'd eventually choose career
involving music.
According to Dave, he wanted to be a musician from the
time he was old
enough to talk. Having started his career on
drums and percussion, he eventually took up singing and playing guitar
simply because his band needed someone to do it.

Talking with Dave, you will discover his admiration for not only Jimi
Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Alice In Chains and other rockers, but you will find that
he appreciates less contemporary artists like Johann Sebastian Bach as
well.
In other words, Dave's musical background is a well-rounded one.
Dave made his way to California with a friend. He brought little more than the
necessities:
2 guitars, an amp and about 2 pairs of pants. After a month or so, he had
to
make a choice -- spend his last $500.00 for a ticket home or a vehicle. He
bought a well used motorcycle with the money and decided to stay.
By this time, he was playing in a bunch of bands including his own. The
simple lure of free beer was sometimes all it took to hire these guys. He has also recorded CDs
and
performed with the punk band Krunk and with pop singer Shannon Beaty.
He was a member of the Rick Springfield Band from 1998 to 2004 touring
and recording with Rick for 7 years. So, if anyone runs into Dave's
former counselor from high
school, be sure to tell him that Dave's behind the head guitar playing did
indeed pay off.
